SOFT CAST LEAD BULLETS FOR COWBOY ACTION AND LONG RANGE SHOOTING

We are pleased to offer relatively soft, cast lead bullets for cowboy action shooting (CAS). Bullets for .38 Special and .45 Long Colt are cast from lead with a Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) of approximately 12 and are lubed with Magma Engineering blue smokeless powder lube (blue lube). These round nose, flat point (RNFP) bullets have one lube groove and one crimping groove. These bullets can be used in both rifles with tubular magazines and pistols.

We are also pleased to provide bullets for large bore, long range rifle shooting. Bullets in .45-70 caliber are cast from a 20:1 lead:tin mixture for a Brinell Hardness Number of 10. This 20:1 lead:tin mixture duplicates that used by the Frankford Arsenal in the late 1800's for bullets for the 45-70 cartridge.  These soft bullets will seal the bore in antique firearms such as the trapdoor Springfield. Bore obturation with both smokeless powder and black powder result in greater accuracy and less bore leading. Rifles such as the trapdoor Springfield require a soft bullet as their bores are often oversize and the bullet has to "bump up" to seal the bore. The .45-70 bullets are offered in two weights (405 and 500 grains) as well as with three combinations of sizing/lubrication (see below). The .45-70 bullets are of the flat point, round nose design. The 405 grain bullet has three lube grooves and one crimping groove. The 500 grain bullet has four lube grooves and one crimping groove. The .45-70 flat nose bullets with a crimping groove can be used in both single shot and tubular magazine rifles. Smokeless powder lube is Magma Engineering blue lube while black powder (BP) lube is SPG.

Shipping on all orders within the USA is via USPS Flat Rate box at $10.75 per order up to 70 pounds. There are 7000 grains per pound. To calculate shipping weight, multiply the number of bullets you are ordering times their weight in grains and divide by 7000. The answer is the total weight in pounds of your order.
